EP31 - The Great Wall of Zebra - A safe pedestrian crossing for kids

00:00

14:33

Amanda has had enough of cars that don’t stop at crossings. Her solution? Build a wall. This week on Brilliant or Bonkers, we look at The Great Wall of Zebra: a pedestrian crossing where barriers rise out of the road the moment the green man lights up, just like at a level crossing. The cars stop because they have to, and everyone gets across safely, whether they’re five years old or ninety-five.

But what happens to the driver who’s going a bit too fast? How do ambulances get through? Could you press the button just to hold up the traffic? And should the barriers be solid steel or big squishy pillows?

We pitch it, poke holes in it, and work out how to make money from it. Then the Judgement Giraffe decides: is The Great Wall of Zebra Brilliant, Bonkers, or Brilliantly Bonkers?
